A gas leak has been identified as the cause of an explosion at a barbecue restaurant in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, which killed 31 people and injured seven on Wednesday night, the local public security department said in a statement on Saturday.
The owner and an employee of the restaurant, who are among the victims in the blast, replaced a pressure-reducing valve connected to the liquefied gas tank, resulting in the gas leakage that caused the explosion, the statement said.
Four people have been put under criminal detention for allegedly "negligently causing a serious accident," said authorities on Saturday.
