The Chinese Basketball Association announced on Sunday the 12-person roster for the FIBA Women's Asia Cup due to take place in Sydney from June 26 to July 2.

Franchise players who finished as runners-up at the 2022 World Cup, including Han Xu, Li Meng, Yang Liwei, Wang Siyu and others, joined their compatriots to prepare for the event as some are currently involved in the WNBA fixtures.

According to FIBA, the sport's global governing body, the top four teams of the Asia Cup will qualify for the Paris 2024 qualifier and the 2026 World Cup, as the preliminary round for the Olympic qualifier originally scheduled in November was cancelled.

This is the first international competition for the Chinese women since they finished second in the World Cup, which also took place in Sydney last year.

Team China finished second in the last edition of the Asia Cup and have won eleven titles in total, one short of Team South Korea. Meanwhile, Team Japan won the recent five editions consecutively.

According to the latest FIBA ranking this week, China are ranked top in Asia, followed by Japan, Australia and South Korea.
