Kremlin explains why Lukashenko brokered deal to halt Wagner rebellion

The Kremlin said on Saturday that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko had offered to mediate a deal to end an armed mutiny that Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin had led against Russia's military leadership.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Lukashenko, who has known Prigozhin for around 20 years, struck the deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin's agreement.
