Alert level 3 over Mayon Volcano means that it is currently in a relatively high level of unrest as magma is at the crater and a hazardous eruption within weeks or even days is possible.

A total of 38,935 individuals or 10,121 families residing nearby have been affected by Mayon Volcano’s unrest, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Sunday.

Among them, 18,715 people were staying in 28 evacuation centers in the Bicol Region, while 1,424 people were seeking temporary shelter outside of evacuation centers.

Mount Mayon is situated in the eastern province of Albay, some 330 kilometers south of the country's capital of Manila. It is considered to be the Philippines most active volcano and last erupted in January 2018.
