China is ready to enhance strategic trust and boost cooperation across the board with Barbados, Premier Li Qiang said on Sunday.

During talks with Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley, Li said Beijing is ready to build the China-Barbados relationship into a model of unity, solidarity and win-win cooperation among developing countries.

Barbados is "a good friend and partner" of China in the Caribbean region, Li noted.

He said China is willing to work with Barbados on the high-quality building of the Belt and Road Initiative, support the synergy between the Chinese-proposed Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the Economic Recovery and Transformation Plan of Barbados, and enhance exchanges and cooperation in trade and other fields.

China will encourage Chinese investments in Barbados, import more products from the country and support its sustainable development and climate change efforts, said Li.

Mottley, on her part, expressed Barbados' commitment to improving people's lives and promoting sustainable development.

Barbados is willing to work with China in fields such as agriculture, energy, infrastructure, poverty relief and tourism, and address global challenges, including climate change, she said.

Barbados rejects "decoupling" and supports the safeguarding of the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core and the stability of global production and supply chains, said Mottley.

Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents on the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the blue economy, local cooperation, medical and health care, and news media.

Li hosted a welcome ceremony for Mottley at the Great Hall of the People prior to the talks.

Mottley is on an official visit to China that will run until Wednesday. She will also attend the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos Forum, which is set to be held in north China's Tianjin Municipality.
