Spring is fading and giving way to the luxuriance of early summer in the forests and river valleys. This lonesome fellow on the branch is a member of the largest hornbills in China, called the great hornbill. Even a young adult may have a wingspan measuring over one meter. Its apparent composure belies the anxiety it feels ahead of a midsummer deadline for finding a life partner. Watch the video to see how the bird attracts a partner with his enchanting songs.

About 'Journeys in Nature': Yunnan Dehong Series
Yunnan Province in southwest China is one of the few regions in the country to feature tropical rainforests. The rich flora and fauna reserves have turned Yunnan into a hub for wildlife enthusiasts as well as academic researchers. Dehong Prefecture, sitting at the western end of Yunnan, is a land of lush mountains and fertile dales. Boasting both tropical and subtropical features, it is endowed with ample sunlight and heat.
