China's largest saltwater lake expands as eco-environment improves
00:53

The Qinghai Lake, China's largest inland saltwater lake, has expanded to its largest size since 2012. The water body of the lake increased from 4,370 square kilometers in 2012 to nearly 4,560 square kilometers in 2022. Its average water level also rose by more than three meters during the same period. The Qinghai Lake is a natural barrier that stops the spread of desertification from the west to the east. The increase in its water area is of great significance for curbing desertification and providing comprehensive ecological protection.
