China on Monday refuted some countries' false comments about the national security law for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

Speaking at the 53rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), a Chinese representative said China firmly opposes any country or external force interfering in China's internal affairs and judicial sovereignty under the pretext of human rights.

The independence of judges and lawyers plays an important role in the judicial protection of human rights, the representative said.

China is committed to allowing every citizen to enjoy fairness and justice in judicial cases and supports the UN, especially the UN human rights mechanisms, to carry out work in this area in an impartial, objective and credible manner, the representative said.

Since the implementation of the national security law, the HKSAR has entered a new stage from chaos to governance and prosperity, the representative said, adding that the rule of law has been re-emphasized, and the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong residents are better protected.

The rule of law and judicial independence in the HKSAR are guaranteed by the Basic Law, and the courts conduct trials independently without any interference, the representative said.
