In recent years, initiatives such as green transportation, the "Clean Your Plate" campaign, and garbage sorting have gained more presence in everyday Chinese life. Official data shows that 98.9% of Beijing residents are taking part in garbage sorting. In terms of green transportation, China's first integrated green travel service platform, Mobility as a Service, has more than 30 million users.
Zhang Junjie, director of the Initiative for Sustainable Investment at Duke Kunshan University, said rising environmental awareness is attributed to policy change, income growth and green education.
