UN expert urges U.S. to apologize for inhuman treatment at Guantanamo Bay
00:36

A UN expert on Monday called on the U.S. government to apologize for the inhuman treatment of detainees at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, which was established by former U.S. President George W. Bush's administration in 2002 following the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The UN Special Rapporteur on counter-terrorism and human rights, Fionnuala Ni Aolain, said the 30 men that are still being held there are subject to "ongoing cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment." Ni Aolain's trip to Guantanamo Bay was the first official visit to the site by a UN expert.
