According to Zhao Jianming, head of the management department of the Ruili Rare Plant Botanic Garden, Alsophila dates back to 200-300 million years ago, and used to be dinosaur's food. Zhao said that the scientific circle calls the plant "living fossils" in the studies on paleontology and the history of Earth.
