The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday voiced its objection to remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, dismissing them as "irresponsible" and a departure of basic norms governing international relations.

When asked about a recent trip to Beijing in an interview, Blinken claimed that the United States will continue to do and say things that China does not like.

"China is dissatisfied with the comments made by Secretary Blinken," said Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Thursday.

The U.S. pursues a misconceived China policy that stems from a misguided China perception, seeks to block, contain and suppress China and has been attacking and smearing China's image to interfere in China's internal affairs, said Mao.

"What the U.S. has said and done violates the basic norms governing international relations," she said. "China has every reason to firmly oppose that."

"I would like to stress again that mutual respect is the basic principle for countries dealing with each other and an essential ingredient for China and the U.S. to find the right way to get along," she continued.

China urges the U.S. to stop making irresponsible comments and honor its commitments with concrete actions, said Mao.
