Human rights cause needs solidarity rather than division: Chinese envoy
CGTN

Chen Xu, permanent representative of China to the United Nations (UN) Office at Geneva, said that promoting the healthy development of the international human rights cause requires solidarity rather than division, cooperation rather than confrontation at the ongoing 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council on Wednesday.

He pointed out that 30 years ago, the World Conference on Human Rights adopted the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, resolving to take a new step forward in the international community's commitment to work harder and more consistently in international cooperation and solidarity so that the cause of human rights can make real progress.

China has always been firmly committed to maintaining international solidarity, promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and building a better world together, he said.

China calls on all countries to abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, to conduct human rights exchanges and cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect, to jointly oppose politicizing or instrumentalize human rights issues, and to contribute to the healthy development of the international human rights cause through practical actions, he added.
