At least 667 people were arrested in France as a wave of protests swept the country following the fatal police shooting of a teenage boy, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said via Twitter on Friday.

The protests have left 249 police and gendarmes injured, the Interior Ministry announced Friday, adding that none sustained serious injuries.

Some 40,000 police had been mobilized nationwide to deal with the violence, the ministry said.
