A 28-year-old chimpanzee named Vanilla saw the open sky for the first time at a privately funded sanctuary in Florida recently. Vanilla was a survivor of a now-closed research lab in New York and was then transferred to a sanctuary in California. She had never previously been outside of a lab cage or garage-sized enclosure.
