Cities in Hainan Province are vying with each other to popularize amateur volleyball tournaments and promote development of the sport in rural areas. A popular variation of volleyball in Hainan's rural areas is the nine-man volleyball. Braving summer heat, a huge crowd of villagers gathered at a small court to watch a friendly game between two town teams prior to the municipal tournament.
With volleyball courts on every corner of the city, volleyball has long been a dominant sport in Wenchang. People from different towns would gather to enjoy the sport. These events have not only aroused people's enthusiasm for the sport, but have also played a role in boosting development of Hainan's tourism and relevant industries.
