China has impressed a UN official with initiatives that are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. Amina J. Mohammed, deputy secretary-general of the United Nations, says that China has invested in data centers that connect the world and also offer spatial data for ecosystems and cities. Mohammed says that this data is pivotal since we can only move forward when we have baselines of where we came from. She was also impressed after visiting the Ordos Desert Initiative, which involves an afforestation project in the desert, a seed bank and a huge investment in solar farms. But by far, what moved Mohammed the most was the education drive for nomadic children that can help them reach their full potential.
