CGTN Anchor Guan Xin speaks to Saadia Zahidi at the Annual Meeting of New Champions in Tianjin. Zahidi believed China played an important role in the global economy and emerging markets. She said global cooperation was inevitable despite geopolitical challenges. Abandoning globalization was unrealistic and could negatively impact food security and energy supply. "Re-globalization" that protected disadvantaged groups was needed. She pointed out the lack of support for youth and women in job opportunities amid economic shifts. The World Economic Forum's recent Global Gender Gap Report showed either deterioration or stalling of progress on gender parity. This was disappointing because women's workforce participation tends to benefit a country's competitiveness, productivity, and growth.
