Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with Malagasy Foreign Minister Yvette Sylla in Beijing, calling for opening new prospects for China-Madagascar ties.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that China and Madagascar have always respected and treated each other as equals, engaging in mutually beneficial cooperation. The bilateral relationship has maintained a stable and growing momentum, he said.

China highly commends Madagascar's firm adherence to the one-China principle, said Wang. "We equally express unwavering support for Madagascar in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as exploring a development path that suits its own national realities and continue to play a unique role in Africa and on the international stage," he added.

Wang said that the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation had become a symbol of solidarity and cooperation between China and Africa, as well as an important platform for South-South cooperation. China appreciates Madagascar's contributions to China-Africa cooperation, Wang said, adding that China is willing to join hands to comprehensively implement the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and contribute to accelerating the development and revitalization of African countries.

Sylla expressed anticipation of drawing lessons from China's development experience and expanding cooperation with China in various fields such as energy transition, digital economy, hybrid rice and more between Madagascar and China.

Madagascar appreciates China's sincere support for African development and its strong advocacy for the interests of developing countries and believes that China will play an even greater leading role, Sylla added.

"China is firmly committed to the path of peaceful development," said Wang, adding that "while pursuing its own progress, China will work together with developing countries to achieve common rejuvenation."
