Langya Mountain, situated in Yixian County of Hebei Province in north China, derives its name from its towering and rugged peaks that resemble wolf teeth. The mountain showcases a remarkable landscape characterized by steep and undulating terrain, primarily composed of granite.

Beyond its awe-inspiring natural scenery, Langya Mountain holds immense historical and cultural significance. The Qipan Peak is home to the memorial tower of the Five Heroes, a site that commemorates the sacrifices of revolutionaries who fought to safeguard national independence and dignity during China's resistance against Japanese aggression.

In August 1941, the Japanese army deployed over 70,000 troops to launch a destructive campaign against the Jin-Cha-Ji revolutionary bases. In September, more than 3,500 Japanese invaders conducted an extermination operation in the Langya Mountain area, which was home to the headquarters of the 1st Division of the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region of the Eighth Route Army and tens of thousands of officials and civilians.

During the retreat, Ma Baoyu, Ge Zhenlin, Song Xueyi, Hu Delin, and Hu Fucai from the 7th Company of the 1st Regiment of the 1st Division were left behind to provide cover for the entire company's retreat towards Laojuntang.

These five soldiers fought back multiple attacks by the Japanese invaders and inflicted more than 90 casualties. As they fought and retreated, they climbed towards Qipan Peak along rugged paths. Mistaking them for the main force of the Eighth Route Army, the Japanese invaders pursued them relentlessly. Undeterred, the five soldiers resisted, using stones as weapons after running out of ammunition.

They continued to fight until dusk. Faced with the advancing enemy, they chose death over surrender, destroying their firearms and leaping off the cliff. Ma Baoyu, Hu Delin, and Hu Fucai died, while Ge Zhenlin and Song Xueyi got caught on tree branches halfway down the mountain, sustaining severe injuries.
