719 arrested, 45 police officers injured in France after fifth night of riots

France's Interior Ministry announced a provisional tally of 719 arrests overnight from July 1 to 2. The country has witnessed a fifth night of rioting sparked by the killing of a teen by a police officer. According to the ministry, 45 police officers and gendarmes were injured, while 577 vehicles and 74 buildings were burnt. Around 45,000 police and gendarmes were deployed to flashpoint cities, including Lyon, Marseille and Grenoble. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said that the latest night was "calmer" and the unrest appeared to be declining.
