Syrian air defenses on Sunday intercepted what its military said was an Israeli missile strike across central parts of the country and downed most of the missiles, state media outlet SANA reported.
An army statement said missiles that flew over parts of Lebanon's capital Beirut hit locations in the vicinity of the city of Homs, resulting only in material damage.
Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces, said in a tweet on Sunday that Israeli fighter jets attacked an anti-aircraft missile battery in Syria in response to the launch of an anti-aircraft missile from Syrian territory towards Israel earlier in the night, which exploded in the air and caused no casualties.
