Li Gong Di used to be an important location for communication and transportation, attracting many merchants to do business there and form a prosperous market. Nowadays, the area has been renovated and expanded to occupy a much larger area which is listed as one of China's national-level tourism and leisure blocks.
After renovation work, the new Li Gong Di tourism and leisure spot reopened in 2006, featuring its long causeway connecting historical and cultural relics from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), pavilions in the traditional Suzhou architectural style, bridges and other modern buildings, to form a sight-seeing spot to enjoy breathtaking views and up-to-date tourism facilities.

In addition, thanks to its outstanding urban design, the block has been divided into four main areas consisting of international brand stores, time-honored Chinese brands, themed bars, cafes, restaurants, shopping malls, intangible cultural heritage workshops, galleries, museums and much more. The newly expanded area of the block is still under construction.
The block takes advantage of the captivating natural scenery which offers the perfect blend of historical relics and modern business enterprises. It was acclaimed as one of the top ten destinations for beautiful night views in Suzhou in 2010.
