The Israeli army launched drone strikes in the occupied West Bank area of Jenin on Monday as part of an "extensive counterterrorism effort." At least eight residents were killed and 50 others injured, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. The operation comes two weeks after an Israeli army raid on the Jenin refugee camp killed seven, and saw rare use of helicopter missile fire. Israel has stepped up operations in the northern West Bank, home to Jenin and its adjacent refugee camp, which is a stronghold of Palestinian armed groups. The Jenin area has recently been the focus of a spate of attacks on Israelis.
