China and Malawi established diplomatic relations in 2007. Over the past 16 years, the two countries have witnessed a fast and sound development with fruitful corporation in various fields. In March of 2022, Malawi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with China on the Belt and Road Initiative cooperation, embarking on a new journey of cooperation. CGTN host Zheng Junfeng interviewed Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera during his trip in Changsha City, Hunan Province. President Chakwera believes the Belt and Road initiative is like the kind of 'catalyst' that gets Malawi to its goal and help the country transform from a land-locked economy to a land-linked one.
