Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng on Monday urged the United States to address its concerns on economic and trade issues during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of Treasury Janet Yellen, days ahead the latter's scheduled visit to China this week.

The two sides exchanged views on China-U.S. relations, and economic and financial issues at bilateral and multilateral levels, according to a statement by the Chinese Embassy to the United States.

Both sides said that the meeting was "frank and constructive," and agreed to maintain communication.

During the meeting, Xie noted that a healthy and stable China-U.S. relationship is in the interest of both countries and also the common expectation of the international community.

China has always followed the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, as proposed by President Xi Jinping, in viewing and handling its relations with the U.S., he said.

"We hope that the U.S. side can meet the Chinese side half way, implement in letter and in spirit the important common understandings between the two heads of state, remove obstacles and manage differences with actions, and strengthen dialogue and cooperation with sincerity, so as to promote the stabilization of China-U.S. relations and take them back to the right track," said Xie.

As agreed between China and the U.S., Yellen will visit China from July 6 to 9, China's Ministry of Finance announced on Monday.

Her visit comes more than two weeks after a two-day visit to Beijing by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
