The Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Tuesday condemned the interference in the rule of law and law enforcement in the region by politicians of the United States and the United Kingdom.

These politicians expressed their opposition after the Hong Kong Police Force announced on Monday the offering of a reward of HK$1 million ($127,633) to those who can provide information on eight fugitives wanted for endangering national security.

In a statement, the spokesperson for the office of the commissioner said the police, based on facts and in accordance with law, took measures against these suspects per the clause of "protective jurisdiction," which is in line with international law and practice.

Some foreign politicians criticize the HKSAR's legitimate law enforcement efforts of safeguarding national security, but at the same time "turn a deaf ear" to their own countries' abuses of the concept of national security, the spokesperson noted.

Their accusations against the HKSAR and their silence on "long-arm jurisdiction" and illegal, unilateral sanctions by their own countries speak volumes about their desecration of the rule of law, hypocrisy and double standards, the spokesperson added.
