"I had injury to my arm, so I just wanted to try to keep healthy and not let the injury get worse. As for the result, I didn't expect too much, but I am very happy that I could win today," Wang said after the match.

Three Chinese players who also appearanced on the opening day, Zheng Qinwen, Yuan Yue and Zhu Lin, made early exits this year. Veteran Zhang Shuai's match against Croatia's Donna Vekic was postponed to Tuesday due to rainy weather.

Meanwhile, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland kicked off her Wimbledon campaign by defeating China's Zhu 6-1, 6-3 to progress.
Switatel pulled out of the Bad Homburg Open last week due to "some fever and possible food poisoning" but recovered just in time to pursue her fifth Grand Slam title.
Swiatek showed her dominance from the start, surging to a 5-0 lead before taking the first set 6-1 in just 35 minutes.
The second set was halted by rain when Swiatek led 4-3, after Zhu broke for the first time in the seventh game. But the top seed came back with more patience, breaking back in the eighth before serving for her victory in the next game.
Swiatek has won four Grand Slams. However, none were at Wimbledon, where she has yet to go beyond the fourth round.

Twenty-three-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic of Serbia also breezed into the next round over Argentine Pedro Cachin with a straight-set victory.
Djokovic, 36, is seeking a men's record-extending 24th title that would also draw him level with Australia's Margaret Court in total victories and level Swiss great Roger Federer's record of eight Wimbledon titles. He could also potentially equal Federer and Swedish Bjorn Borg's record of five successive men's singles wins.
