The latest round of torrential rains since Monday has killed 15 people and left four others missing in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality as of 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, local authorities said as rescuers race to save lives in the flood areas.
Heavy rainfalls have continuously hit regions including Chongqing, causing heavy casualties and property losses. Over 2,500 people were dispatched by authorities in Wanzhou District, the most affected area, to join the rescue mission.
Beijing has been keeping a close eye on the situation. The National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on Wednesday dispatched a working group led by Wang Daoxi, vice minister of the Ministry of Emergency Management and vice minister of the Ministry of Water Resources, to the affected area to guide flood control and disaster relief efforts.
