The International Atomic Energy Agency – the UN's nuclear watchdog – says the Japanese government's plan to release nuclear-contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea meets its safety standards. Japan's plan has angered many nations in the region over fears of the impact the contaminated water will have on the environment. Shen Yiyang, director of the Inclusive Development Research Center, said Japan is choosing the controversial contaminated water release plan over other safer options.
