Yukio Hatoyama, former prime minister of Japan, spoke at the International Conference on China and the World: Towards Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind on July 5 in Beijing. He said "China is essential to the development of the world." He spoke highly of China's role in world peace at the conference, noting the role Beijing has played in the normalization of ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
