Chinese modernization is deeply rooted in preserving traditional Chinese culture. And as part of China's intangible cultural heritage, guqin, a plucked string instrument with a history of over 3,000 years, is one of the country's cultural treasures.

A 1,000-year-old guqin attracted global attention when it was put on display during the opening ceremony of Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics. Zhai Beibei, a student at Beijing Foreign Studies University, visited the makers of the guqin used at the opening ceremony, learned the instrument's history, and experienced the charm of seeing cultural treasures up close.
