A total of 17 districts and counties in southwest China's Chongqing have reported heavy rainstorms as torrential downpours have been battering the region since July 3. Hardest-hit Changtan Township in Wanzhou District recorded the highest daily rainfall of 261.2 mm. The rainstorms have claimed at least 15 lives, with four people still missing. Floods and landslides have forced 11,000 residents of Wanzhou District to evacuate. More than 1,900 hectares of crops have been damaged. The city has allocated over 29,000 items of disaster relief supplies as firefighters continue to transfer flood-trapped residents to safety.
