A luncheon marking the 70th anniversary of China-UK trade was held in Beijing on Thursday. The event celebrated the so-called "icebreaking mission" when British business people pushed back against domestic pressure at home to open up a trade door with China. In a letter to the event, Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated the joint efforts of "icebreakers" and Chinese entrepreneurs, who have helped Sino-British trade grow from nothing to more than $100 billion.
China is the UK's third-largest economic partner. And the UK is still the No. 1 destination for Chinese investment in Europe. Participants in the celebration luncheon expressed willingness to maintain and nurture a "Break the Ice Spirit" and a constructive China-UK relationship, particularly at the time of economic challenges and geopolitical tensions. CGTN's reporter Liu Jiaxin has the report.
