Two litchi trees planted in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) at the Xichan Temple, Fujian Province have yielded fruit recently. With thick, sweet juicy flesh, these litchis are popular among local residents. All the other hundreds of litchi trees in the temple yard were grafted from these two ancient ones and they offer tourists and devotees a quiet and cool site in the downtown area of the city of Fuzhou.
