As many parts of China experience scorching heat, traveling along No. 317 National Highway is one way to escape the sun. The journey will take you deep into western China, through vast, open landscapes punctuated by majestic peaks. Despite its reputation for poor driving conditions and tight mountain hairpin bends, the highway traverses a variety of terrains with breathtaking scenery, including snow-capped mountains, high mountain passes, dozens of famous rivers, primeval forests, numerous lakes, villages and monasteries.
