CGTN

- The United States announced on Friday that it would supply Ukraine with cluster munitions for its counteroffensive against Russian forces as part of an $800 million security package.

- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres later voiced opposition to the use of cluster munitions, which he said would have "collateral effects" on the battlefield.

- Adopted 15 years ago and ratified by more than 100 countries – not including the U.S. – the Convention on Cluster Munitions bans the use of cluster munitions.

- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday met with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Istanbul ahead of a NATO summit in Lithuania, where Western leaders within the military alliance will meet on a range of topics, including Ukraine's membership bid.

- Both Guterres and Erdogan called for continuation of the Black Sea grain initiative as the July 17 deadline looms.

- Russia has repeatedly said it sees no prospect for the deal's renewal because obstacles still remain to its own exports of food and fertilizer.
