Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with Uganda's Foreign Minister Okello Oryem in Beijing on Tuesday.

China and Uganda are comprehensive cooperative partners with an all-round relationship. China will continue to support Uganda in its development and revitalization efforts and enhance its capacity for independent development, said Wang. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Uganda in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and promote cooperation in depth and substance in various fields, he said.

"Both sides should continue to maintain mutual support on issues concerning each other's core interests, reject unilateralism, bullying, and hegemonic practice, and uphold international fairness and justice," he said.

The Global Development Initiative (GCI) aims to re-focus the international community on development issues, assisting developing countries in enhancing capacity building and achieving economic revitalization and independent development.

The GCI has received positive responses from the international community, and Wang expressed the expectation that Uganda would actively participate in the GCI, enabling more projects to take root in Uganda and benefit the people of Uganda.

Oryem is in Beijing for the first high-level conference of the Forum on Global Actions for Shared Development, which kicked off on Monday. He said he was glad to have the opportunity to come to China to attend the first high-level conference of the Forum on Global Actions for Shared Development and congratulated it on its success.

"We are grateful to the Chinese Government and enterprises for the support and assistance they have provided to the Ugandan side in development, particularly infrastructure development," said Oryem. "China's support is not a 'debt trap,' but rather valuable assistance in the absence of developed countries, intending to strengthen Africa's capacity for autonomous development," he added.

"China and African countries share a common vision," Oryem said. "The Uganda side firmly supports cooperation with China to ensure that development is brought back to the center of the global agenda and is not subject to politicized factors."
