This year marks the 10th anniversary of Qiaopi's inclusion in UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. Qiaopi, a form of correspondence and remittance documents among overseas Chinese, has been recognized by UNESCO for its global significance and outstanding universal value.

Qiaopi business boomed in the mid-19th century and ended in the 1970s. Around the early 1930s, 40-50 percent of the families in the Chaozhou-Shantou region depended financially on Qiaopi remittances. A two-day exhibition is being held in the Thai capital of Bangkok to showcase the history and culture of Qiaopi. The exhibition started on July 9 and runs until July 11.

Thailand is one of the Southeast Asian countries with the largest population of overseas Chinese from Chaoshan City in southern China. Qiaopi is not only viewed as a bridge connecting overseas Chinese with their home country but also stands as a testament to the longstanding friendship between China and Thailand.
