Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China and Brunei have pledged to further boost political mutual trust, and the joint construction of the Belt and Road has achieved fruitful results, said Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

Wang made the remarks while meeting with the Second Foreign Minister of Brunei Dato Erywan Yusof in Jakarta on Wednesday.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the strategic cooperative partnership between China and Brunei. "The two sides ushered in new development opportunities in bilateral ties," Wang said.

"China is willing to work with Brunei to fully implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, deepen all-round cooperation, promote the continuous development of bilateral relations and bring more benefits to the two peoples," he added.

China stands ready to work with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries to deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields, Wang said.

China is ASEAN's good friend, and among the ASEAN dialogue partners, China has created a number of "firsts", Dato Erywan said, noting that Brunei is looking forward to expanding cooperation in various fields with China.
