Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Wednesday urged efforts to improve policies and rules to promote the sound and sustainable development of the platform economy.
Li made the remarks while meeting with executives from the country's major platform enterprises, including Meituan, Xiaohongshu, Pinduoduo and Douyin, at a symposium.
The platform economy has provided space for expanding demand, an engine for innovation and development, new channels for employment and entrepreneurship, and new support for public services, showing a prominent position and role in the overall development, Li said.
Highlighting the importance of the platform economy, Li expressed his hope that platform enterprises can continue to advance innovation to better empower the development of the real economy.
He also called on platform enterprises to actively fulfill their social responsibility, accelerate the improvement of international competitiveness and play a leading role in development, employment and international competition.
Li urged governments at all levels to create a fair and competitive market environment, improve policies on investment access and new technology security assessment, and improve transparent and predictable regulation to push for the healthy development of the industry.
