Vermont's capital Montpelier was submerged in floodwaters on July 11 as torrential rain kept pounding the region. The flood trapped residents, washed out roads and set off widespread rescue efforts. More than 100 people have been rescued statewide. Meanwhile, rescue crews search for others stranded. The governor of Vermont said the extent of the storm's damage to infrastructure and buildings remained unclear, but thousands of people had lost homes and businesses.
