G7 countries announced on Wednesday an international framework that paves the way for long-term security assurances for Ukraine to boost its defenses against Russia.

"Today we (the Leaders of the G7) are launching negotiations with Ukraine to formalize — through bilateral security commitments and arrangements aligned with this multilateral framework, in accordance with our respective legal and constitutional requirements — our enduring support to Ukraine as it defends its sovereignty and territorial integrity, rebuilds its economy, protects its citizens, and pursues integration into the Euro-Atlantic community," read a joint declaration of support for Ukraine at the NATO summit.

U.S. President Joe Biden said that the G7 had made a clear statement that its support to Ukraine would last long into the future after a declaration outlined a multilateral framework to support Ukraine.

Speaking alongside Biden, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the multilateral accord that paves the way for bilateral negotiations was a "significant security victory" for Ukraine.
