As a dialogue partner of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China supports the ASEAN-centered regional cooperation framework and backs ASEAN countries to maintain the correct direction of East Asia cooperation to accelerate the building of an ASEAN community, senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi said on Wednesday.

Wang, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when attending a tripartite meeting held by China, Russia and Indonesia in Jakarta.

Despite the sluggish recovery of the world economy and heightened geopolitical tensions, seeking peace and development and promoting cooperation is irresistible, Wang said, adding that world multi-polarization, economic globalization and democracy in international relations are still the general trend.

He said all countries urgently need to strengthen solidarity and coordination, practice true multilateralism and jointly address risks and challenges to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

As both representatives of emerging markets and important members of the G20, China, Russia and Indonesia should carry out exchanges and cooperation that are in line with the common interests of the three countries and conducive to promoting the process of multilateralism as well as regional peace and stability, he said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi introduced views on the current international and regional situation, hailing that the meeting demonstrates the consensus on maintaining the centrality of ASEAN, and agreeing to maintain communication.

The three parties also exchanged views on food and energy security, calling for improving global governance to ensure smooth supply chains and the security of food and energy in developing countries.
