President of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune will pay a state visit to China from July 17 to 21, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced on Thursday.

The visit is set to become the African leader's first trip to China since taking office. According to Hua, leaders of the two countries will exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

China was the first non-Arab country to recognize Algeria's provisional government (GPRA) when it was established in 1958. And for its part, Algeria served an important role during the People's Republic of China's restoration of its lawful rights at the United Nations.

The two sides established a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2014 and have deepened political mutual trust and achieved fruitful cooperative results through the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative since.
