The 2023 China New Media Conference took place in Changsha, the capital of central China's Hunan Province on Wednesday. This annual event serves as a platform for media practitioners to communicate and showcases the latest new media products.

The conference drew over 800 attendees, including representatives from central and local government departments, news organizations, online platforms, universities and institutions. A total of 21 news organizations participated in the event.

During the conference, participants emphasized the responsibility of journalists in shouldering the country's new cultural mission and building a modern Chinese civilization. They called for concerted efforts to ensure a healthy online environment and enhance the media's ability to guide and influence mainstream public opinion.

A key outcome of the conference was the issuance of the "Malanshan Initiative," which called on journalists engaged in international communication to present a true and comprehensive image of China while establishing an international discourse power that aligns with China's national strength and international status.

The initiative highlights the importance of adhering to China's position and adopting an international perspective. Journalists are encouraged to find expressions that effectively integrate Chinese and foreign elements, enabling the world to gain a better understanding of China and its propositions, such as the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and promoting common values of humanity.

The initiative also emphasizes the significance of telling the stories of the Chinese people. By unearthing the vibrant experiences of ordinary individuals and effectively narrating these stories, journalists can provide foreigners with insight into life in China and the aspirations of its people.

It also emphasizes the need for journalists to adapt to the trends of mobility, socialization and visualization in international communication. This adaptability is crucial for enhancing the appeal of Chinese culture, fostering a positive image of China, increasing the persuasive power of Chinese discourse and effectively guiding international public opinion.

Lastly, the initiative promotes the preservation and promotion of Chinese civilization while facilitating cultural exchanges. It emphasizes the importance of deepening mutual learning between civilizations and fostering a world where diverse civilizations can flourish and coexist.
