On the remote Lord Howe Island between Australia and New Zealand, scientists have found a species of seabird named flesh-footed shearwater suffering and even dying from eating plastics.
These seabirds were diagnosed with a new plastic-induced fibrotic disease called "plasticosis." The study was published in the Journal of Hazardous Materials.
CGTN Nature talked to the lead author Hayley Charlton-Howard, a seabird and marine plastic researcher at the Adrift Lab. She shared her experiences and opinions. Watch the video to find more!
