China slammed the UK for its "irresponsible" remarks regarding the law enforcement actions of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Thursday, urging the UK to immediately correct its wrongdoings. 

Stressing that the Hong Kong police officers acted in accordance with the law, the Chinese Ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang pointed out the actions are "just, necessary and legitimate."

"The UK side pointed fingers at the HKSAR police's law enforcement actions, spoke publicly for those anti-China elements, and provided a safe haven for them. What the UK has done confounded white and black, showed no respect for the rule of law, and grossly interfered in China's internal affairs," Zheng said in a serious démarche to the relevant UK official from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

He expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the UK's wrongful words and actions on Hong Kong-related issues, stressing the legitimacy of Hong Kong's National Security Law. "Since the National Security Law entered into force, Hong Kong has enjoyed social harmony and stability, its economy has continued to recover, and the rights and freedoms of people in Hong Kong have been better protected," Zheng noted.

The HKSAR government on Friday also issued an opposition statement regarding the same matter, condemning the UK for "unreasonably smearing" the Hong Kong National Security Law.

"Endangering national security is a very serious offense. No country will watch with folded arms acts and activities that endanger national security," the spokesperson for the HKSAR government said in a statement. 

"The HKSAR Government solemnly urges the UK to discern fact from fallacy, stop immediately their wanton slanders and smears against the NSL and the implementation of the Law in the HKSAR, and refrain immediately from interfering with the internal affairs of the People's Republic of China and Hong Kong matters," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that the HKSAR government will continue to implement the Law "resolutely, fully and faithfully."
