Known as one of the largest villages where Dong people reside in China, the ancient Zhaoxing Dong Village in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou boasts authentic Dong culture. The village is surrounded by mountains and waters. Much of the architecture was made from fir wood. The style is famed as diaojiaolou, meaning houses built over water and propped up by wooden supports. Thousands of Dong people live there and continue to preserve the tradition of handmade cloth and costumes.
