Russian President Vladimir Putin offered mercenary fighters with the Wagner Group the opportunity to remain serving together in Russia after their revolt, Russian daily Kommersant reported after an interview with the president on Thursday.
Putin said he made the offer at a meeting with around three dozen fighters and their founder Yevgeny Prigozhin in late June, five days after Wagner staged an abortive revolt.
However, Prigozhin said the fighters were not interested in the offer, the newspaper reported Putin as saying.
